College Writing Seminar: Citations

Citation Manuals

Stuck? Have something that you cannot find in one of the online manuals?

The Library has citation style manuals available from 2 hour reserve at the circulation desk. They are listed under Reference.

What you need for a citation

Using the above item from the library catalog, we will be creating citation examples. Typically, you will only be doing one format, but in this case three will be demonstrated.

Questions to ask:

  • What format is the material?
  • Do we know the author, number of authors, title, year, etc?

See the three examples below for a demonstration of the three main citation styles bibliography versions:

  • APA:  Read, Piers Paul. (2012). The Dreyfus Affair: the Scandal that Tore France in Two.  New York, NY: Bloomsbury Press.
  • MLA: Read, Piers Paul. The Dreyfus Affair: the Scandal that Tore France in Two. New York: Bloomsbury Press, 2012. Print.
  • Chicago: Read, Piers Paul. The Dreyfus Affair: the Scandal that Tore France in Two.  New York: Bloomsbury Press, 2012.
