What are Open Educational Resources?

OA vs. OER

The Open Access Movement directly addresses the access challenges that currently exist in a closed scholarship environment by removing publishers from the decision-making process.

This solidifies direct roads of communication between researchers, students and all members of society who are interested in developing their own knowledge and education.

Adopting OA practices is a step towards inclusivity.

OER materials are freely available on the open internet, and can be accessed on the first day of class (or even earlier).

Publishing OERs also has the potential of increasing the scholarly impact of faculty, creating research that can be easily accessed by other faculty around the world. OER publication opens a world of opportunities, connecting faculty across great distance for innovative partnerships as they build cutting-edge pedagogies in higher education and beyond.
